Marjorie H. Smith, 84, of Fayette died Friday, December 9, 2016 at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 15, 2016, at the United Methodist Church in Fayette with Rev. Mee Kang officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 14th, at Becker-Milnes Funeral home in Fayette and for one hour preceding services at the church on Thursday. Interment will follow at West Union Cemetery.
Marjorie Helen, daughter of Harry and Helen Smith Olesen, was born May 16, 1932, at West Union, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethel Presbyterian Church in West Union. She received her education in the West Union Public Schools, graduating from West Union High School in 1950. She continued her education at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. On April 25, 1953, she was united in marriage with Richard E. Smith at Bethel Presbyterian Church in West Union. She was a farm wife and mother, and occasionally substitute taught at school. Later in life, she briefly worked at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette. She had been a member of P.E.O., was a 4-H leader, enjoyed doing genealogy, and loved to travel. Her greatest joy, however, was her time spent with her family.
Margie is survived by three sons, Steve (Karolyn) of Osage, Tom (Diana) of Fayette, and Maury (Dana) of Littleton, Colorado; one daughter, Cindy Durscher (Steve Pleggenkuhle) of West Union; seven grandchildren, Tina and Traci Smith, Sarah (Brett) Ingersoll, Tim (Renee Ann) Smith, Amber (Mark) Schultz, Hunter Smith and Miranda Smith; two step-grandchildren, Andrew (Ashley) and Amber (Luke) Richardson; eight great-grandchildren, Amanda Smith, Rylee, Dalton, and Reed Upton, Nolan and Sawyer Ingersoll, Aubree Schultz, and Caden Smith; five step-great-grandchildren, Micah, Calvin and Bronson, and Luciana and Violet; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Judy (Dick) Brookhaus of Coralville; three nephews, Bob, Rich, and Jim; and one niece, Becky.
In addition to her husband, who died November 9, 2014, Margie was preceded in death by her parents; her mother-in-law, Evelyn and father-in-law, Howard; and brother and sister-in-law, Leo and Amy Olesen.
